About the Artist
Sascha Ley is one of the best known and respected artists in Luxembourg. Combining an acting and music career, she likes walking along unconventional paths in her musical output embracing jazz, free improvisation, imaginary folklore and contemporary music, and reaching out for extended vocal techniques.
Since 2007 she has produced and published four albums with mostly own compositions under her label yela music. The latest release “The Wee Hours” by her duo with French double bass player Laurent Payfert features an experimental mixture of contemporary jazz and instant composition. A new album with the duo is in work and will follow in 2018/19.
A part from guest singer appearances, the Ley & Payfert duo and project collaborations with fellow musicians, Sascha currently concentrates on her Solo In(Ter)ventions program and a solo, commissioned by the Gaume Jazz Festival 2018.
She occasionally teaches workshops in free vocal improvisation.
The Grund Club Songwriter Core invited Sascha Ley to join the Grund Club as a songwriter in December 2017. She introduced 3 original songs and performed a duet with Sven Sauber (her wing-man) of Step inside my mind by Claire Parsons. We are honoured to have Sascha amongst us.
Sascha Ley has been trained in Amsterdam, Bombay, Luxembourg and Saarbrücken with Reinette van Zytveld (NL), Kenny Semour (L/USA) and Dhanashree Pandit-Rai (IND). Her interest in free improvisation led her to attend master classes and workshops with Gabriele Hasler, Shelley Hirsch, Frank Köllges, Meredith Monk and Sainkho Namtschylak.
